Meso-scale finite element modeling of Alkali-Silica-Reaction

چکیده

The Alkali-Silica Reaction (ASR) in concrete is a chemical reaction, which produces an expansive product, generally called “ASR gel”, and causes cracking damage over time. Affecting numerous infrastructures all around the world, ASR has been topic of much research past decades. In spite that, many aspects this reaction are still unknown. numerical-investigation paper, three-dimensional meso-structure model simulated using finite-element method. Coarse aggregates, cement paste, gel explicitly represented. A temperature dependent eigen-strain applied on pockets to capture their behavior. This applies pressure surrounding aggregates leading cracks initiation propagation. Free expansion specimens due modeled validated experimental data. Influence different key factors generation paste macroscopic discussed.

Meso-scale Modeling of Tension Analysis of Pure and Intra-ply Hybrid Woven Composites Using Finite Element Method

One of the key issues associated with using of composites in various applications is their tensile behavior. The tensile behavior of a composite material is strongly influenced by the properties of its constituents and their distribution. This paper focuses on gaining some insights into the tensile process of pure and hybrid woven composite reinforced with brittle and ductile yarns. For this pu...

Efficacy of Aluminum Hydroxides as Inhibitors of Alkali-Silica Reaction

A comparative study of amorphous and crystalline forms of commercial aluminum hydroxides as inhibitors of alkalisilica reactions in Portland cement mortars has been performed. It was found that at dosages of 1% to 3%, amorphous aluminum hydroxide can efficiently inhibit alkali-silica expansion of Portland cement compositions. High inhibiting activity of amorphous Al(OH)3 additives may be explai...

Effect of Alkali Silica Reaction (ASR) in Geopolymer Concrete Final

Alkali silica reaction (ASR) occurs due to chemical reaction between hydroxyl ions in the pore water within the concrete matrix and certain forms of silica. This reaction could lead to strength loss, cracking, volume expansion and potentially failure of the structure. This manuscript reports findings of an experimental investigation of the inter-particle bonding between the reactive aggregates ...

Modeling Time-Dependent Behavior of Concrete Affected by Alkali Silica Reaction in Variable Environmental Conditions

Alkali Silica Reaction (ASR) is known to be a serious problem for concrete worldwide, especially in high humidity and high temperature regions. ASR is a slow process that develops over years to decades and it is influenced by changes in environmental and loading conditions of the structure. The problem becomes even more complicated if one recognizes that other phenomena like creep and shrinkage...

Meso-scale modeling of a forested landscape

Meso-scale models are increasingly used for estimating wind resources for wind turbine siting. In this study, we investigate how the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model performs using standard model settings in two different planetary boundary layer schemes for a forested landscape and how this performance is changed when enhancing the roughness by a factor four in one of the schemes. ...
